Kimchi Stew (Kimchi Jjigae) | 김치찌개

Ingredients: ¼ head of kimchi, ½ block of tofu, 1 leek,
Seasoning sauce: Gochujang, soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, chopped garlic, 800 ml water or broth,
Optional: chili flakes, hot chilies, tuna, meat

preparation

  1. Heat butter or oil: Put a small amount of butter or oil in a pan and heat it over medium heat until melted.
  1. Stir-fry the kimchi: Add the kimchi to the pan and stir-fry until it softens slightly and releases an aromatic fragrance. Add the onions.
  1. Add chopped onions and fry them along with the kimchi until the onions are translucent.
  1. Add additional ingredients: Add prepared ingredients such as Spam, ham, pork, or tuna. Sauté until thoroughly cooked.
  1. Add rice: Add the cooked rice to the pan and stir well to ensure it is evenly mixed with the other ingredients. Fry the rice until evenly heated.
  1. Season and garnish: To taste, you can garnish the rice with roasted seaweed (nori), sesame seeds and a few drops of sesame oil.
  1. Add a fried egg: Prepare a fried egg in a separate pan and place it on top of the finished kimchi fried rice.
  1. Serving: The kimchi fried rice is ready! Enjoy it fresh and warm.
Tips: 
- If the kimchi is too sour, you can add a teaspoon of sugar to balance the taste.
- Vary the ingredients according to your taste – vegetables, shrimp or tofu also work well.
