Total time: 30 minutes
Difficulty: easy
Ingredients: Rice cakes, fish cakes, 2 cups of water, vegetables (e.g. spring onion, cabbage),
Seasoning: 2 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp gochujang, 1 tbsp chili flakes, 2 tbsp sugar
Preparation:
- Prepare the rice cakes: Place the tteokbokki rice cakes in a pan. Pour 2 cups of water over them, ensuring the rice cakes are completely covered.
- Add the seasoning sauce: Add 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of gochujang (Korean chili paste), 1 tablespoon of gochugaru (chili powder), and 2 tablespoons of sugar to the pan. Stir the sauce well to ensure the ingredients are evenly distributed.
- Add fish cakes: Add the fish cakes (eomuk) and bring the mixture to a boil.
- Add vegetables: If you've prepared any vegetables, add them now (e.g., onions, carrots, or spring onions). Cook everything together until the rice cakes are tender and the sauce has thickened slightly.
- Optional: Add boiled egg: If you like, you can add boiled eggs and let them cook or serve them as a topping.
- Serving: Tteokbokki is ready! Serve it hot and enjoy the spicy flavor.
