Ingredients

For the meat

  • 400 g beef (rib, rump or fillet, thinly sliced)
  • 1/2 onion (thinly sliced)
  • 1/2 carrot (cut into thin strips, optional)
  • 2 spring onions (cut into fine rings)
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds (for garnishing)

For the marinade

  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar or honey
  • 1 tbsp mirin (or apple juice for a sweet note)
  • 1/2 small pear or apple (grated, for tenderness)
  • 1 tbsp chopped garlic
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil

👨‍🍳 Preparation

1️⃣ Prepare the marinade

  • Mix all ingredients for the marinade well in a large bowl.

2️⃣ Marinate the meat

  • Add the thin slices of beef to the marinade and mix well.
  • Add onions, carrots and spring onions.
  • Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes (2 hours or longer for best flavor).

3️⃣ Fry or grill meat

  • Heat a pan with a little oil or use a grill.
  • Fry the marinated meat over medium-high heat for 3-5 minutes until golden brown and juicy.
  • Finally, drizzle with sesame oil and sprinkle sesame seeds over it.

🍽 Serving tips

Traditional: Serve with rice and kimchi.
Wrap style: Wrap in lettuce leaves and enjoy with ssamjang (Korean seasoning paste).
Extra spice: Add gochugaru (Korean chili powder) for a spicier version.
